The Idea
We are a group of four university students who decided to set up this project. We are bonded in a close relationship while two of us are brothers. All of us hold experiences with sick and disabled persons, among those are also several pilgrimages with sick people to Lourdes. The decision to start the project resulted after such a pilgrimage and the project is strongly connected with Christian values.
In the summer of 2004 we spent time in several parts and regions of Kenya to get an impression of the way of life in Kenya and to gain experiences on the country itself. The visit was intended to deepen our understanding of the needs and problems of disabled people as well as to learn about their traditions and backgrounds.
We visited sick people in their homes and gained insight to their situations and the conditions they live in -in slums as well as in the countryside. We visited several hospitals and organisations in the area of Nairobi and its slums and spent several days at the magnificent farm of Kuki Gallmann. |
